Saraki, now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said it was time they changed the system, saying however that doing so may bring some discomfort.
“It is comfortable not doing anything, it is uncomfortable trying to change the system. But we must change the system,” he said. He spoke in Ilorin during an annual public lecture and dinner organised by a group of Ilorin emirate indigenes under the aegis of Klob 27.
Saraki, who is chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, also stressed that agriculture remains the only surest path to give Nigeria economic freedom.
According to him, the model of large scale commercial farming has succeeded in the state. He added that it is the same model initiated in the state eight years ago that the federal government is now launching. Saraki, who ruled the state from 2003 to 2011, said having achieved economic growth in the state especially through the commercial farming initiative, the same feat is achievable at the federal level.
