We lost 30 members to COVID-19 pandemic – ASUU president

He said that if the country had good health facilities and those affected had money, they wouldn’t have died.

The president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, has revealed that the union lost 30 members to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Ogunyemi disclosed this during the 21st National Delegates Conference  of the union on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State. He said they lost their lives mostly due to lack of access to quality health care facilities, as well as funds.

“We must place on record that COVID-19 did not spare our campuses.

“Many of our infected members had to combat the attack with resources from colleagues and other people of goodwill because their salaries and emoluments, as well as the union’s deductions were either withheld by the office of the Account-General of the Federation over the rejection of the discredited Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS,” the ASUU boss said.

He said that if the country had good health facilities and those affected had money, they wouldn’t have died.
