The first case of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in Nigeria was recorded in 1986. Since then, concerted efforts have been made to control the disease.
One of these efforts was the establishment of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA); the treatment of HIV/AIDS patients with the Antiretroviral Therapy began in Nigeria in 200t.
As the World AIDS Day is celebrated on Tuesday, the Director General of NACA, Gambo Gumel Aliyu, speaks on how far Nigeria has come in the control of the deadly virus.
