‘We didn’t grant fresh approval for N40b bond’ -Benue Assembly

The Benue State House of Assembly has cleared the air of rumours milling around the state that it granted the executive arm of government an approval to loan N40 billion bond.

Spokesman of the House and Member representing Ukum State Constituency, Paul Biam in denying the allegation, told journalists in Makurdi on Thursday that there were no fresh approval given to the state governor, Samuel Ortom for another loan.

Biam said the approval being speculated was done five months ago when the former speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange held sway at the assembly chambers.

He explained that the governor was misconstrued when he only made reference to the said consent of the House at a public fora because his administration is anticipating the bond.

“No, no, the house has not given approval for another borrowing of N40 billion bond. But in clear terms, What happened was that the previous leadership headed by former speaker Terkimbi Ikyange in collaboration with members granted a request of the governor. It is not a new development.”

“The governor was only trying to review what happened. What the governor did announced, it is not that we are granting another permission. It is not today this is about five months back. So he was only reviewing activities on how he wants to carry out and execute this incase if the loan is given to government. And so it is not the leadership of Uba, it is the leadership of former speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange in collaboration with members of the Assembly,” he said.
