The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that it never abandoned corps members receiving treatments for Coronavirus infection at any isolation centre in the country.
The scheme was debunking a report making the rounds on the social media where some corps members purportedly claimed that they have been abandoned at the isolation centres where they were receiving treatment.
According a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations Unit of the scheme, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, “before corps members were admitted into any NYSC camp, both the Prospective Corps Members or Corps Members as well as and Camp officials, they all had to undergo a COVID-19 test.
She said that those tested negative were allowed into the camps, while those tested positive are handled by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
According to her, the Jigawa Corps Members that tested positive to the virus were taken to the state’s Isolation Centre for treatment and care.
She disclosed that the NYSC Jigawa Secretariat, Jigawa State Government and NCDC have been in constant touch with the Corps Members on their welfare and care.
“However, there have been agitations from some of them that want to leave the Isolation Centre to reunite with their families because of the festivities but were turned down until they are certified okay by the NCDC.
“The Management appeals to the concerned corps members to be patient as all that the NCDC is doing is for their interest and that of other Nigerians,” she said.
