We consume drugs before setting out for operation – Cultism suspect

A member of Aiye Confraternity secret cult gang, Kabir Atanda, has confessed to consuming lots of Indian hemp before embarking on any operation.

Atanda, 25, said drugs help them to conquer fear during fracas with rival cult members.

Atanda is among five suspected members of a notorious secret cult gang, Aiye, who were arrested at Ikorodu when a joint task team of detectives from the Lagos State Police Command raided some shanties and markets in the area.

“It is a common practice for us to smoke Indian hemp or take tramadol before setting out for an operation. The gang will make available several wraps of Indian hemp, which we smoke hours before setting out for the battle ground,” he said.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects were allegedly responsible for a lot of violent killings in Ikorodu and Epe.

Adejobi said the suspects were allegedly planning another attack when the team swooped down on them.

He identified those arrested as Tanimowo Babatinde, 41, Gbilahan Oladimeji, 25, Kabiru Atanda, 25, Ibrahim Abubakri, 29 and Wasiu Rafiu.

Guns and other dangerous weapons including Indian hemp were allegedly recovered from the suspects.

The decision to raid the area, according to the state police spokesman, was in furtherance to the promises made by the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, at the recently concluded Ikorodu Town Hall Meeting held on Wednesday, January 27,, 2021.

Adejobi said the special squad also  removed  shanties, blockages and open markets on the roads in Ikorodu Division, particularly at Agric Area and some other parts of the town, that had been an eyesore and criminal hideout, with a view to making the town free of gridlock and crimes.

“The squad succeeded in clearing the blockages on the roads, illegal parks and shops, where it arrested five suspected traffic robbers and cultists,” he added.
