* as party insists primaries have been conducted
Amidst the confusion and tension trailing the conduct of APC governorship primaries in Lagos which the National Working Committee (NWC) annulled, the state chairman of the party, Hon Tunde Balogun has insisted the elections stand.
He spoke with newsmen at the secretariat a moment ago following the decision of the NWC to annul the primaries earlier conducted in the morning indicating a landslide victory against the incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
Asked when a fresh shadow election would hold for the candidate of the party to emerge, the Chairman retorted that no fresh election is taking place, saying collation of results is ongoing as he urged journalists to await the declaration of the results.
“I am the chairman of this party and I cannot disenfranchise over 1.5m people that took part in this exercise all over the state. It would be unfair; it would be unjust to do so.
“The basic thing for direct primaries is to have people accredited. Once you have them accredited, count the number that has decided to queue behind any aspirant of their choice. That’s all what happened today and we did that openly and everybody on their own free will queued up behind candidate of their choice,” he said.
