The Paramount Ruler of Bakassi LGA and chairman of Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Etim Okon Edet has threatened to move his people from Nigeria by applying for Bakassi to be expunged from the nation’s constitution.

He said that this is owing to the intolerable suffering and neglect of his people who were uprooted from their ancestral lands as a result of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling which handed their territory to Cameroon.

He spoke when the state APC gubernatorial candidate in the March 2 governorship election, John Owan-Enoh called on him at his palace.

The royal father called on President Muhammadu Buhari to make a definite declaration about the plight and welfare of the people of Bakassi.

He warned that his call for a response from the presidency is urgent. He threatened that if the people does not get the government’s response sooner, he said what his “people may do will shock the whole country. We can even apply for Bakassi to be expunged from the constitution of Nigeria”.

The monarch decried the ugly situation which the aborigines of Bakassi have been subjected to in the country and noted that “Bakassi people are usually indifferent at election times like this because of what they have been made to pass through over the years.”

“Bakassi people are pained, angry and endangered. We call on President Buhari to say and do something on the plights of Bakassi people. The federal government should remember Bakassi and make a proper statement,” he insisted.

Also speaking, Owan-Enoh and the candidate for the Federal House of Representatives seat in the area, Hon. Dominic Aqua Edem, assured that they will jointly bring up the issue to the front burner once they win at the polls.
