We are under attack over anti-corruption advocacies, says HEDA

The Human Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) said Wednesday it has been under series of attacks in the last five months over its anti-corruption advocacies.

Chairman of the Centre, Olanrewaju Suraju, said the attacks have been very brazen because the beneficiaries of corruption are highly connected and they are ready to go to any length, including compromising the civil society just to get away with their crimes.

He spoke at the second day of the virtual Anti-corruption Situation Room with the theme, “Evaluation and review of impacts of “Tracing and Recovery of Illicit Funds and Assets on beneficiaries.”

The conference was held with the support of the United Nations Development Program, (UNDP), MacArthur Foundation, Open Society Initiative for West Africa, (OSIWA).

He said HEDA would continue to engage the relevant stakeholders on issues bothering on anti-corruption advocacies.

Suraju said the current COVID-19 pandemic has become an avenue for the public and private sectors to make “fee money.”

He noted that while for instance Ekiti State charges N6,500 for test, laboratories in Lagos and Abuja charge N50,000 and above.
