Bauchi state government has cleared the air on the postponement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state.
The president was initially billed to visit the state today, Tuesday, December 13th, on the invitation of the Nigerian Airforce. He was expected to commission Nigerian Airforce Hospital.
In a statement on Monday by the Special Assistant to governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar on Communications, Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, it stated that while the Bauchi State government provided the land on which the Airforce Base is being built and paid over N300 million as compensation to the original owners, it did not organize the postponed visit.
"We decided to key into the programme as good hosts and invite Mr. President to commission some of the projects we have been working on. The ongoing projects in Bauchi, including the ones His Excellency was going to commission were awarded before we knew the President was coming to Bauchi State; none was planned.
"Alleging that these projects are being worked on simply because of the president’s visit is playing too much politics. The infrastructure is for the good of all indigenes, residents and tourists in Bauchi State, and we will continue working to ensure everyone enjoys the dividends of our democracy,” the statement noted.
It however stated that, as soon as the Nigerian Airforce and the Presidency announce a new date for the visit to Bauchi, the state government will inform everyone to give the president a rousing welcome.
