We are not mobilizing corps members for war — NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that no corps member is being mobilised for war.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, had stated on Thursday that, in line with the National Defence Policy, corps members were like soldiers on reserve.

He said this is because their education, exposure and sophistication could make them easily adaptable to military training.

However, in a statement signed by Deputy Director (Publications), Emeka Mgbemena, on Friday, the NYSC said it was not planning to deploy the corps members for any war.

The statement charged them to remain focused and patriotic; and for the spirit of NYSC to live in all Nigerians.

He stated that the DG never at any point said that corps members were being mobilised to fight war.

Ibrahim assured that the scheme would continue to safeguard the interest of corps members at all times.
