We are not desperate for power – Kwara APC guber candidate

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Wednesday declared in Ilorin that he was not desperate to win the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

Abdulrazaq, however, said he would not cease preaching against the level of underdevelopment in the state.

The governorship candidate, who spoke through the Director General of his campaign organisation, Kwara Central, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, stated this during a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Kwara State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mallam Umar Abdulwahab.

Seriki said the APC administration, if elected, would prioritise infrastructural development, welfare of workers and transform the state economically.

The Director General, who led other Directors of the campaign organisation during the visit, said he was delighted that the nation’s polity had taken a new shape with young people coming on board.

He sought the collaboration of the NUJ in spreading and sensitising the electorate on the manifesto of the APC governorship candidate, assuring that Kwara would experience rapid development if given the chance.

“We are here to form synergy, to know more on how to make Kwara one of the best in the country. I’m happy Nigeria is taking a new shape because there is a belief that young people are capable of taking over.

“But we must let you know that against the shenanigans going round that we are not desperate and we will not be. All we are telling Kwarans is that enough of underdevelopment”, Seriki said.

Responding, the state chairman of NUJ urged political parties and political actors in the forthcoming general elections to make their campaign issues-based.

Abdulwahab assured that the media would provide a level playing ground for all parties and candidates in the coverage of events leading to the polls.

The NUJ chairman, however, expressed displeasure over rising political violence in the state, urging party leaders to caution their supporters against conduct that could truncate the existing peace.

“We are a bit worried about the political development in the state, which led to thugs going on rampage. We pray we don’t witness the ugly experience again. We want parties to caution their members against violating the law. They should conduct themselves within the ambit of the law”, Abdulwahab said.
