The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Zaria has said it is committed to delivering Smart Transportation systems through its innovations, research and development.
Director-General/Chief Executive NITT, Dr Bayero Salih-Farah, said this in his Independence Day statement.
He said as a training and manpower development institute, NITT is committed to achieving its vision of pioneering the development of Smart Transportation systems through the deployment of intelligence transport system infrastructure for the purpose of the collection of real-time information about the performance of the transportation industry in Nigeria.
Salih-Farah also said the NITT is committed to deepening research and pioneering innovations in clean energy and the development of alternative fuels for the Nigerian transportation industry.
Dr Bayero Salih-Farah further said that the NITT is ‘collaborating with international institutions and the private sector in the areas of research, development, training and innovation towards a vibrant, integrated, multi-modal transportation system that will meet the needs of the Nigerian economy in consonance with international best practices.”
He said the Institute is establishing functional Drivers’ Development and Training Centres across the country to properly train drivers and reduce unprofessional drivers.
The NITT boss commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to building transport infrastructure across the country.
“I commend President Buhari’s leadership drive and passion to leave behind a better and improved Transportation system in Nigeria. Notable among these are the ongoing manpower and infrastructural development initiatives that seek to significantly improve efficiency and service delivery in the transportation system” he said.
