Ways to boost yourself

“A clear illustration for how much boosting one’s self can do to the moral and wellbeing of a person is clear in the story of the lizard that falls off a tree and nods his head in recognition of the fact that he did a good job of his falling.” These are the words of Nwankego Christopher, who believes that everybody should every give themselves a little nudge before their day begins.

Self-growth.com defines self motivation as the ability to satisfy a desire, expectation, or goal without being influenced to do so by another person. “Self motivation is the key to a paradigm shift or behaviour changes amongst individuals. When we are self motivated we basically are empowered to do what needs to be done, without influences from other people or situations.”

But how many of us see this as a paramount element that should be a part of our day to day affairs? Regardless how we view it, we all have motivational hot spots and need to be aware of it when faced with difficult situations.

Boosting yourself, Iliyasu Waziri believes brings success and fortunes. “For me” he said, “it is not just about thinking positively but also doing things in line with these positive thoughts. It is not enough to give ourselves mental boost we need to back this up with the right actions and attitudes. What can we do? Can we motivate others? No, we cannot motivate others but we can create the conditions for others to motivate themselves

Judith Agbamu says that she motivates herself by setting a major goal, and following an organized pattern to achieve it. “On my way up my achievement ladder, there are steps I climb to enhance my ‘move’ and at each level I make sure I succeed. I don’t just scale through them. Everyone I succeed at spurs me on to the end. This is great motivation achieve the bigger goals.”

Another factor Agbamu says is important is that, “Also, I have learnt to always finish what I start because any half-finished project is of no use to anyone. I learnt very early in life from my parents that quitting is a bad habit. Every project I begin, I immediately put on an attitude that keeps me on my toes till the end.”

“Many of us don’t ask questions or socialise with others who share similar interests.” This, Henry Egahi said is a fundamental reason many people can’t motivate themselves to carry on or do unique things for themselves.  “Mutual support in itself is more motivation to the self than one can imagine. Being around people who have focused and result oriented I have found out gingers me to want to do a lot more for myself. I may have initial impediments but even sharing these, has often brought about solutions that finally get me to my goal. The fact they call and check up on me gives me some kind of enthusiasm to do more. This is only possible when one surrounds himself with the right people.”
