The Women and Youths Pathfinders Initiative (WAYPI) has urged Nigerians, especially the wealthy to sustain their assistance to the needy in the country.

The National President, WAYPI, Lady Lilian Dizo, made the call on Monday in Abuja during a reception organised by the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria Alumni as part of activities marking her birthday.

According to her, the government alone could not solve all the challenges facing the nation, including assisting the less privileged, thus the need for all Nigerians, especially the wealthy, to do more for the needy and vulnerable in the society, especially the youths, in the interest of national development.

She said that the alumni that organised the ‘family affair reunion’ was not a particular set of the ABU alumni, as it comprises of members of different set of alumni.

“We have been doing our best for the orphanage and some other less privilege in the society and this one was a family party to come together to celebrate me,” Dizo said.

When asked why poverty and other challenges remain unsurmountable and impact not felt, despite government and non-governmental efforts, she said, “The truth of the matter is the country we are in, especially Nigeria, and Africa as a whole, we have so many needs, so the needs can never be met, not even in one day. Even government cannot even meet the entire needs of the people.

“So, in that case, we are also supporting the government in our little way to reach out to some of those areas. So, we keep doing what we should do to empower some people. And that is why we keep empowering some people like we are trying to also organize empowerment training in next June.

“This would be in the areas of tailoring, computing, make-up, agriculture. So, government efforts cannot be enough and everyone should play their parts, so that the situation can keep improving.”

She also said that the previous beneficiaries of her organisation’s online trainings and empowerment programmes have their establishments and it was through the training, such that they have also employed some other Nigerians.
