The State Commissioner of Water Resources, Dr Abdulmumin Danga, made this statement in Lokoja on Monday while briefing journalists on the efforts made so far on the damaged pipeline.

Danga said that the non-supply of water to Lokoja metropolis was a result of the damage of the major pipeline supplying water from the main source at greater waterworks to the main reservoir in the capital city, before distribution to the populace.

“I want to put it on record that the scarcity of water was not intentional as some people are beginning to read so many meaning to it without properly investigating the reasons why there have not been water supply,” he said.

The commissioner of water resources added that it is pertinent to rectify the damaged main pipeline at this present season because of the large quantity of water the state has been losing through the leaking pipeline.

He said there’s no better time to carry out the repairs than this dry season because of the swampy nature of the vicinity where the pipeline is situated.

“Concerted efforts are in place both day and night to finish the work as soon as possible”, he said.

He commended the residents of Lokoja Metropolis for their patience, perseverance and understanding while the maintenance work lasted.
