The water overflowing from the collapsed Haya Dam has flooded and destroyed thousands of hectares of farmland in Haya, Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Some community leaders in Haya in a statement urged the Hadejia/Jama’are River Basin Authority (HJRBA) to reconstruct the Haya Dam.

The community leaders made the call in a press statement signed by Malam Muhammadu Lawal Ibrahim and made available to Daily Trust Saturday in Dutse.
He said the dam which was constructed about 12 years ago had collapsed for more than three days due to heavy downpour, which made the water overflow.
The statement further said that when residents of the area observed signs of possible collapsing of the dam, they had severally reported to the concerned authorities to take action.
He noted that the dam had improved the social and economic lives of the residents, especially during the dry season farming.
