Members of the Bashar chiefdom in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State have petitioned the Plateau State governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, and the Committee on Creation/Upgrade of Chiefdoms, Districts, and Village Areas in Plateau State.
The community, led by Shehu Abubakar, during a press conference in Jos on Monday, stated that the petition was aimed to address irregularities and injustice observed during the selection of the Rekna of Bashar by the immediate past governor of the state.
“In September 2022, the Rekna of Bashar position became vacant, and a new Rekna should have been chosen from the ruling family through a proper selection process involving the kingmakers,” Abubakar said.
The group alleged that the selection process was manipulated to serve certain interests within the state, rather than the interests of the entire kingdom.

The spokesman also claimed that the chiefdom experienced disruptions during the selection process, with four out of five kingmakers abducted on December 16, 2022, presumably to influence the outcome of the selection.
