The Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, has conveyed President Muhammadu Buhari’s support and goodwill to the effort by ECOWAS through West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) to ensure that countries in the sub-region are energy sufficient.
He said Nigeria is fully committed to addressing electricity challenges, with the ongoing investment in grid expansion and upgrade at home.

Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu stated this at the opening of the 33 Session of ECOWAS WAPP ministerial meeting in Niamey the capital of Niger Republic.
He also said Nigeria will work with agencies relevant to the WAPP project, including the ministry of finance and defence, to address challenges delaying the project.
The Minister and his defence counterpart represented Nigeria at the foundation laying ceremony of the Niger side of the regional project, flagged off on Tuesday by the President of Niger Mohamed Bazoum and the President of Ghana Nana Akufo Addo – who is the current chairman of ECOWAS – at Gondu Banda.
