While disclosing this at the weekend, Shuaib Garba, of Sokoto Democratic Vanguard said that prior to the emergence of the governor, the various local governments had been strangulated financially, a situation which had consistently impeded accelerated growth and development in the rural areas of the state.
According to him, “the governor’s gesture will go a long way in ensuring that the chairmen of the local governments are further empowered to provide basic social amenities, such as pipe borne water, community health centres and other necessities which were hitherto lacking in the rural areas to the people.”
Garba also revealed that the governor recently concluded a tour of the 23 local governments in the state with the view of assessing the performance of the local government chairmen and to further prompt them on the need to be committed to their campaign promises to the people.
