Wakili, 2 others transferred to CID

The Oyo State Police Command has transferred the Ibarapa-based herdsman, Isikalu Wakili, to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Iyaganku Ibadan, for further investigations.

The command also refuted the assertion that the complainants who reported Wakili to police were arrested and detained, saying “the allegations are unfounded and baseless.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olugbenga Fadeyi, who spoke in Ibadan on Monday, urged members of the public to disregard the allegation that police detained the complainants who reported the Fulani herdsmen at the Police Station in Ibarapa axis.

Wakili was arrested by members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) following an alleged petition by residents of Ayete Ibarapa that he and his men were destroying their farms.

Some members of the community had, during the weekend, threatened that if the police released the old man and he returned to Ibarapa, there might be crisis.

The police spokesman said: “We would like to inform the general public that sequel to the arrest of Iskilu Wakili and two other persons and subsequent transfer to State Criminal Investigation Department, (CID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, discreet investigation on the suspects has commenced.

“Consequent upon this, seasoned detectives have since commenced investigating Wakili and his suspected accomplices. The Command wishes to invite members of the public who have corroborating evidence against them to appear, this will go a long way in ensuring that water-tight evidence is established for the purpose of diligent prosecution.”
