Head of the Nigeria’s National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr Olu I. Adenipekun has called on the federal government to introduce E-Learning in Nigeria as a way of further reducing stress and malpractices during examinations.
Adenipekun made this call in Calabar when he formally announced the results of WASSCE for private candidates 2018-second series, ahead of the Nigerian National Council (NNC) meeting which is the highest policy-making organ of WAEC in Nigeria.
Answering questions from journalists, he said in many countries E-Learning and E-Assessments have become the vogue and there was the need for the country to join the fray early enough.
“E-Learning has become very important, and many countries are adopting it for ease. The federal government seriously look into its early and formal introduction.”
” At our own level, we have started with the establishment of modern examination halls with E-Learning equipment. This is because WAEC is seeing E-Learning and e-assessment as very critical as it will reduce remarkably human interference in the marking of examination papers. It will also reduce stress and time spent at marking results. I’m happy to add that we have even used two subjects in the last WAEC exams, Commerce and Civic Education as test cases where answers were electronically marked”, he said.
