The 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, 2021 is told hold from August 16 to September 30, says the exam organiser.

The West African Examination Council announced the date to quell rumours that the exam have been postponed.

Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria, Demianus Ojijeogu in a statement said that the Head of Nigeria National Office (HNO), Patrick Areghan was quoted out of context during a press briefing to announce the release of results of WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2021 – First Series on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

He further explained that the change in date of the examination, which usually hold between May-June to August/September was due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the education sector.

According to him, the academic calendar has been distorted as a result of which it will not be possible to have the examination in May/June this year. He clarified that a convenient international timetable for the conduct of the examination will be released soon.

“The arrangement is in line with the current academic calendar and was done in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education,” he said.
