WAEC: Akwa Ibom student tests positive for COVID-19

One of the students currently writing the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) examination in Akwa Ibom State has tested positive for COVID-19.

The student who is said to be asymptomatic tested positive out of the 100 students so far tested among those writing the exams.

Governor Udom Emmanuel who revealed this during an interactive session with the people of the state said the student has taken the necessary precaution to avoid spreading the disease.

He stated that as such the state government had commenced random test in some secondary schools, had distributed over 100,000 face masks and hand sanitizers to all schools, as well as put in place modalities to ensure the student did not miss anything.

He said the government is moving from school to school to make sure that the students writing WAEC were safe.

“We have tested over 100 students and it is only one young man that tested positive to COVID-19 pandemic.

“We did what we ought to do medically, I want to believe that by now, the young man should be okay.

“All of them are in excellent health condition because we have put everything in place to ensure that the students were quiet safe,” he said.

When our correspondent visited Community Comprehensive High School, Four Towns in Uyo, amongst others, the Vice Principal, Mrs Idorenyin Otuekong, confirmed that the state government had donated face masks to all the students writing WAEC.

She added that the students were complying with the COVID-19 protocols in their school.

She said, “The governor has provided face masks to all secondary school students in the state, provided hand sanitizers and water buckets to the schools.
