WACSOF warns public about fake news, fraudulent people parading as excos

The West Africa Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) has called on the general public to beware of fake WACSOF members parading themselves as the new executive in order to defraud innocent citizens in Nigeria and beyond.

A statement issued by the board of directors of WACSOF led by the chair Buba Khan, claimed that the fake group in the recent time had intimidated and threatened with death the legitimate representatives of WACSOF.

Khan said his position is supported by the coordinators of the National Platforms of WACSOF in all West African countries, except the one from Nigeria.

According to the Press statement, certain ill-intentioned individuals were sending and publishing messages referring to a supposed new Secretary General at WACSOF from a so-called executive committee that does not even exist anymore.

The statement reminded the public that the executive committee elected in 2016 had ended its mandate in 2018 and has no legitimacy or legality.

It said that WACSOF had always favoured dialogue and tried to find a peaceful solution to the crisis, adding that all attempts have failed. The statement calls on the public to be vigilant and not to take the fake news seriously.

The statement announced that WACSOF has a new legitimate and legal Board of Directors, chaired by Mr. Buba Khan, supported by competent coordinators and teams in all West African countries.

The statement lists the names and positions of the board members, who are recognized for their experience, commitment, professionalism, sense of duty, and moral values.

The statement also confirms that Mr. Komlan Messie continues his role as the Regional Executive Director of WACSOF, praising him for his social involvement, his expertise in civil society development, his leadership skills, and his achievements at WACSOF.
