VW Unveils New 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan in NYC

The biggest change for the new Jetta is the departure from the platform and styling shared with the European-focused Volkswagen Golf. The new Jetta sedan should be noticeably larger than the current model with an overall length that has increased by 3.4 inches although there is no word yet as to the new wheelbase. The new Jetta is still 70.1 inches wide, but it now sits 0.3 inches lower than its predecessor with a height of 57.1 inches. This larger shell should allow the 2011 Jetta to be more competitive with other mid-size sedans in terms of interior space and comfort. Like the current Jetta, the 2011 model will come in four trim levels: S, SE, SEL and TDI.

Our impression on the first pictures release official is that it hasn’t change from being Golf with a boot. Apart from the statistic we got about the car, we hope it will impress us otherwise it will still be the same old feeling toward it. The most attractive change made to the design of the sixth-generation Jetta was replacing the rounded headlamps and large chrome grille with a bolder and more aggressive front end. From there, the body lines are crisper adding some definition to the car’s profile, while the rear gets a more upscale look with a rear fascia and rectangular taillights that could easily have come from an Audi A4.

Only one image was released showing the new cabin, and while it appears to be of a top trim level offering, the styling looks like a mix between the luxurious Volkswagen CC and the compact Golf. The Jetta is still a five-passenger car, but the rear seats got much roomier as its increases rear legroom by 2.6 inches up to 38.1 inches. VW also says that the interior is more customizable than previous models as it allows interior accents to be changed out at the dealership based on the desires of the specific consumer.
