VSF distributes livestock to 4,000 households degraded by insurgency

The Victims Support Fund (VSF) has begun distributing livestock to 4,000 households affected by insurgency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe in efforts to assure food security and livelihood.

The Executive Director VSF, Prof. Sunday Ochoche, flagged off the distribution in Konduga, Borno, where 400 households got three female Borno Brown goats and a male alongside N20,000 to provide initial feeding for the livestock and interim support for the family.

“This intervention targets 4000 households across 5 communities in Konduga, Borno, 3 communities in Mubi North Adamawa  and 5 communities in Tarmuwa Yobe States. We are collaborating with the State’s FADAMA III project, Ministry of Agriculture Resources and Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resources to ensure the provision of routine veterinary services to the benefiting households for the period of one year,” he said.

Prof. Ochoche stressed that the project is to enhance reproduction of livestock degraded by insurgency.

“All of the livestock have been examined and duly inoculated to prevent outbreak of any disease and to ensure compliance with specifications.

“This will increase productivity and ensure the health of the livestock. It is projected that within one year of implementation, each household would have recorded an increase of 12 goats as the breed is reputed for producing two kids every six months,” Prof. Ochoche said.

He warned against the resell of livestock, as the cash transfer was to feed  them to produce more livestock and their livelihood.
