Voters panic over shooting at Akure polling unit

There are reports of shooting at Ijomu/Obanla area of Akure South with voters seen scampering for safety.

The cause of the shooting is yet to be known as voters took to their heels to avoid being hit by stray bullets.

The incident happened around Polling Unit 002 Ward 4 in Akure South.

A source tells Daily Trust the shooting was caused by fighting among some supporters of the APC and PDP at the polling unit.

Crisis started when a party member was allegedly stabbed and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

It is believed he would have been killed but for the intervention of security agents.

“The Police shot in the air to disperse the crowd and prevent the attack from degenerating,” the source said.
