VIO to get 1,000 houses

A real estate developer, Domak Shelter Limited, is set to build 1,000 housing units for personnel of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), popularly known as Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), at Domak Garden City, Karshi, in the FCT.

The project which will be executed in partnership with the VIO Home and Welfare Staff Cooperative Society Limited will be delivered in 18 months.

The Chairman of Domak, Mr. Kingsley Azonobi, who spoke at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between his company and DRTS, said affordability was at the heart of the project, as according to him, a civil servant could subscribe to a N3.5m house.

Mr. Azonobi said, “It is quite tight for us, but we have decided that we will offer the houses so that after serving our nation for years, civil servants can retire to their homes.”

He further said Domak Garden City was a large scale project which had 25,000 housing units designed to suit the taste and status of civil servants.

The Director of Administration of DRTS, Usman Musa Yahaya, said housing for staff of any organisation was a very critical aspect of life that was the concern of every worker.

Yahaya said, “It is a very nice exercise for the VIOs, and it will go a long way to help our personnel in retirement.”
