Residents of Owaza and Obibor communities in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State have deserted their villages after gunmen killed two soldiers at their duty posts in the area.
The affected areas are oil-producing communities situated in the boundary between Abia and Rivers states.
This is not the first time gunmen have attacked military formations within the local government, leading to the destruction of military vehicles, killing of several soldiers and disappearing with their guns.
Recall that in 2020, soldiers attached to the 144 Battalion, Asa, Ukwa West Council, reportedly razed buildings in Owaza over the death of two of their colleagues within the community.
Report has it that the gunmen, after killing the three soldiers, also carted away their arms.
It was also learnt that the gunmen burnt the soldiers’ patrol vehicles.
This time around, the soldiers were reportedly killed between Owaza and Obibor communities.
