Vigilantes foil kidnap attempt of Abuja village chief

Some members of the vigilante group have foiled the attempt by gunmen, suspected to be Kidnappers, to abduct the Chief of Gwomani community, in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, Alhaji Adamu Saba, in the area.

Alhaji Saba, while narrating the incident through a telephone interview with our reporter on Wednedday, said the incident happened on Sunday around 7:23 p.m. when gunmen invaded the community.

He said he was resting inside the compound after he had left Kwali and held a meeting with some clerics and community leaders of the area, when he heard sporadic gunshots from different directions.

According to him, his meeting with some clerics and community leaders ended late around 5:00 p.m, so he decided to pass a night at the community.

“I discovered it was 5: pm already and my car has no spare tyre, and I didn’t want to take a risk to drive through the bad road, so decided to pass a night in the village.

“At about 7: pm after Magrib prayers, I started hearing gunshots from different directions. I was told that Kidnappers were engaging the vigilante in a shoot-out,” he said.

The monarch added that the vigilante members summoned the courage to engage the Kidnappers in a shoot-out, which forced them to flee from the community.

“So I quickly put a call to the Police Area commander in Gwagwalada, who immediately mobilised and came with his men that night to the village and conveyed me inside the vehicle back to Kwali,” he said.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Maryam Yusuf, said the command was not aware of the attempted Kidnap incident, but would investigate it.
