Vigilantes have foiled an attempt by gunmen to kidnap people in Ibwa village in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
A vigilante who was part of the operation, simply identified as Tanimu, said the incident happened on Friday night when the gunmen in their large numbers wielding sophisticated weapons attempted to invade Ibwa village.
He said some of the villagers alerted the vigilantes who then mobilised from Dobi and Paiko villages to foil the kidnap attempt, noting that the gunmen shot into the air and that the vigilantes also fired.
City & Crime learnt that gunmen had last month invaded the community and whisked a resident away but that he was later freed after an undisclosed ransom was paid.
The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, was yet to confirm the incident.
