Vigilante killed, 2 injured as farmers, herders clash in FCT

A 32-year-old vigilante, Iliyasu Shuaibu Kolo, was killed while two others sustained machete cut injuries during a clash between farmers and herders in Dobi community in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A resident, Samaila Yakubu, said the incident happened on Tuesday around 6pm after a teenage herder allegedly moved cows into a farm.

He explained that the farmer arrested the herder and handed him to vigilantes and that the murdered vigilante was at the scene of the incident to ascertain the damage caused by the cows.

He said, “Upon arriving at the farm, some of herders attacked him with cutlasses. He died while being conveyed to the hospital in Gwagwalada. He was later buried according to Islamic rites.

He further said that residents who got information of the incident mobilised to the farm and that two of them also sustained machete cut injuries.

When contacted, the Gwagwalada Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Malam Umar Shehu, confirmed the clash but did not give detail, saying he was in a meeting with the Chairman of Gwagwalada, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri.

The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, was yet to confirm the incident.
