City News learnt that the victim, who is a member of a vigilante group in the area was guarding the area around 11pm when the incident happened.
The source said he was exchanging pleasantries with his leader, who came to supervise him when the gun he was hanging on his shoulder wanted to fall off.
“As he wanted to lift it, he didn’t know when his hand touched the trigger, and some bullets were released, and landed straight at his left toes,” it said.
According to the source, the bullet left that portion of the leg shattered, adding that he was immediately rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital.
City News further gathered that the victim had been in the job for the past two years.
At the hospital, the head, Accident and Emergency unit, Paul Olise, said the victim is responding to treatment at the male surgical unit.
When contacted, FCT Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel, confirmed the incident, saying the command is investigating how the vigilante got the gun.
She said as a vigilante, he was supposed not to carry gun unless if licensed.
“Police are supposed to be with the vigilante group during patrol and it is a crime for a vigilante group to carry gun except if licensed and people who are licensed to carry gun use it for gaming and hunting,” she said.
