A video has surfaced online showing a lady and her husband assault Lagos policemen in their uniforms while performing their duties. the activities of the couple negate sections 174 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Based on Section 174, it is stipulated that three years imprisonment awaits anyone for serious assault while Section 411 prescribes two years for conspiracy.

In the video released via the Twitter handle of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, it was revealed that a woman and her husband maltreated some police officers.

The PPRO noted that the couple was flagged down by officers for not having number plates on their car. Hundeyin further stated that the action has landed the couple in Kirikiri jail as they have been remanded by the court.

He tweeted, “Yesterday, July 24, 2022, at about 2:30 pm, police officers of Ipaja Division flagged down a Mercedes Benz car for not having number plates at Oluwaga-Ipaja. A passenger, Mrs Adebayo Ayobami aggressively and disdainfully questioned why the police officers stopped her husband and not other vehicles.

“She, thereafter, declined to answer any question. In an attempt to get them to the station for further questioning owing to their unprovoked aggressiveness and suspicious behaviour, she and her husband, Ayobami Clinton assaulted the police officers. The car was impounded. They were arraigned today, and the court remanded them at Kirikiri prison.”
