Fire has gutted a section of the Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja in the afternoon. Although, the cause of the inferno has not been established, according to an eyewitness, the fire started at a store where obsolete equipment and materials are kept.
The eyewitness, however, ruled out that the fire was caused by the electric faults simply because the place it started had no electrical wiring.
The portion razed was a laboratory of the Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria, (IHVN), located in the backyard of the hospital.
The fire was said to have started around after 12 noon and lasted for about two hours before it was put off by firefighters.
No casualties were recorded as staff working in the laboratory managed to escape unhurt.
Daily Trust observed that properties and equipment worth millions of naira have been destroyed by the fire. Efforts to speak to the hospital management proved abortive as those on the ground declined to speak to the press.
