Veteran journalist, Timawus Mathias, is dead

Veteran journalist and spokesman for the Bachama Traditional Council, Chief Timawus Mathias, is dead.

The broadcaster died at the age of 73 at the Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital Yola where he had been on admission.

A family member who confirmed the death to Daily Trust said the deceased left behind his wife and four children.

In statement, Wonosikou Humwashi, Chief Press Secretary to the Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri described the late journalist as patriotic citizen who contributed immensely to the development of his country.

“Governor Fintiri who described the demise of Chief Timawus Mathias as shocking, eulogized the late veteran Journalist as a patriotic Nigerian who served the country diligently in various capacities”, the statement read..

“I received with shock, the news of the passing of your husband which sad event took place on Friday. Words are insufficient to condole one on the death of a loved one, but I do urge you to take solace in the life he lived. I have no doubt that Chief Mathias’ impact and reach will continue to be felt through lives of those that have passed through his tutelage and the society at large”
