An 18-year-old student of the Department of Micro-Biology, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Comfort Yakubu, has sensitised teenage girls in Diko, Gurara LGA of Niger State on menstrual hygiene and the proper way to use a menstrual pad.

The event, held at the Government Day Secondary School, Diko, was attended by secondary school girls between the ages of 10 and 18.

Yakubu decried that cultural practices have relegated rural girls in African society, hindering their access to the basic knowledge and understanding of how to properly manage their menstrual cycles because society has made it look as a shameful part of a woman’s life.
