Varsity guard jailed 1 year for stealing lecturer’s phone

An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State on Wednesday, sentenced a 35-year-old security woman, Bukola Akingbade, to one year imprisonment for stealing a lecturer’s bag containing cell phone and other valuables.

The convict, whose address was not provided, was charged with theft.

She pleaded guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, Magistrate O.O Fadairo, sentenced the convict without option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp E.O.Adaraloye, told the court that the convict committed the offence on January 18 at about 5.30 am at Covenant University, Ota.

Adaraloye said that the convict, who was working as a security guard at Covenant University, Ota, stole a bag, containing cell phone, ATM card, and other valuables worth N200,000, belonging to one Dr Abiodun Eniayekan.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 390 of Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006. (NAN)
