The Gombe State University (GSU) Alumni Association has made Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje its life patron.
Senator Goje, representing Gombe Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, was a two-term governor of the state between 2003 and 2011.
Presenting the award to him at his Asokoro residence in Abuja, the national president of the association, Dr Buhari Magaji, said they appointed Senator Goje as their life patron because of his role in establishing the university and achievements while serving as governor of the state.
He added that GSU is a brainchild of Goje, saying that the unwavering support accorded to the pioneer vice chancellor, the late Professor Abdullahi Mahdi, helped in laying a solid foundation for the university, “making it among the best higher education institutions in the country”.

According to him, Senator Goje’s exemplary leadership and that of Professor Mahdi, “made it possible for the establishment of the Gombe State University Alumni Association, a body concerned with the improvement and development of the university, and as an “architect of modern Gombe State.”
In his remarks, Senator Goje said he established the institution to provide less privileged women access to university education to develop themselves and also contribute positively to society.
