‘Vandal’ electrocuted in Yobe

A suspected vandal has been found dead on a transformer at the Commissioners Quarters 1 in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

City & Crime gathered that the suspect attempted to use his shirt to shield himself while tampering with a live wire during the illegal act but was electrocuted in the process.

It was gathered that the corpse was discovered in the early hours by residents on their way to the mosque.

The remains of the suspect were evacuated by operatives of Operation Haba Maza of the state’s police command and taken to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Damaturu.

A source told City & Crime that the relatives of the suspect later claimed the corpse at the hospital.

The state’s police spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, said police investigation revealed that the suspect attempted to steal power assets at about 1am or thereabout during a power outage but got electrocuted when power was restored.
