Vandal arrested over aluminium cable theft

The Benin Electricity Company (BEDC) has arrested a suspected cable vandal, Ibrahim Razak, for allegedly stealing 150mm2 aluminium conductors belonging to the DisCo in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State.

According to the BEDC, Ekiti Regional Head, Mrs Moyosola Akin-Afuye, the suspect targeted a site in Ikere town and made away with 150mm2 aluminium conductors.

She said he was apprehended and handed over to the DPO, Ikere Divisional Police Station, and later transferred to the Ekiti State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Ado Ekiti.

According to BEDC, the incident was part of a larger trend of vandalism in the region, adding that recently, 27 spans (100 meters/span) of aluminium conductors were stolen from the Ikere-Ise 33KV network, resulting in significant losses for BEDC.
