Uzoho out, Nwabili in as new-look Eagles to emerge at AFCON

Francis Uzoho, Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper, is set to be benched by Jose Peseiro for the country’s opening AFCON match.

Nigeria is scheduled to play Equatorial Guinea on Sunday afternoon and inside sources say the Omonia of Cyprus shotstopper will look on from the bench.

It is therefore a straightforward fight between Stanley Nwabili and Enyimba’s Olorunleke Ojo between the sticks, with Nwabili the likelier option the coaching crew could go for.

Uzoho, a promising goalkeeper before suffering a long-term injury, has been a shaky presence in goal for the Super Eagles, contributing to the team’s inability to qualify for the World Cup, while also serving more blunders in recent times.

Also, Alhassan Yusuf, a replacement for injured Wilfred Ndidi is expected to start in midfield, while Victor Osimhen will lead the front line.

Nigeria will face Equatorial Guinea at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium, Abidjan from 3pm.
