Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has called on Muslims to take good advantage of the fasting period to observe good deeds that will earn them rewards and take them to paradise in the hereafter.

The cleric made the call in an interview with City & Crime in his office, emphasising that Ramadan was one of the most blessed moments, hence the need to refrain from bad acts.

He advised that marketers and other commodity sellers should avoid hiking the prices of their goods, but rather discount the prices for people to get food for breaking their fasting.

He said, “Alhamdulillah, as we all know, God Almighty has created the month of Ramadan in order to forgive his servants. Therefore, in this month, there is a need for people to intensify good deeds and seek Allah’s forgiveness so that we can all be rewarded with Jannah.

“Some of the good deeds we are expected to do apart from fasting, engaging in supplications, recitations and studying the Holy Qur’an, there are also other acts that attract much rewards, such as feeding the poor and needy during the period. Feeding a fasting Muslim is like observing another fasting.”

Sheikh Daurawa further urged business owners, especially foodstuff sellers, to fear Allah and avoid hiking the prices of the commodities, adding that they should take that advantage to get closer to Allah.

He said, “In this hardship moment, there is a need to reduce the prices of commodities. Don’t hoard or hike prices at the moment; instead, you should reduce the prices, make the goods available so that Almighty Allah will bless your business. Some marketers are in the habit of hiking prices just to get money, while the hereafter is better than this world.”

He noted that sometimes it was better for wealthy individuals to share foodstuff to the poor and needy instead of paying for the lesser Hajj, Umrah.
