The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State led by Dr Matthew Achigbe has said that the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Usani is only attempting to distract them from positioning themselves well to win next year’s governorship election.
The publicity secretary of the party in the state, Prince Bassey Ita said Usani did not originally set out to contest the governorship now until 2023 but because he has seen how determined and resolved the APC is to dislodge Gov Ben Ayade with whom he allegedly had understanding for 2023 he then threw his hat into the ring.
“Usani is only attempting to distract our team as a way of diminishing our chances at winning the governorship election.
“He had understanding with Gov Ayade to support him for second term so that he could work to see that he (Usani) would emerge in 2023.”
Ita said they have it on good authority that the minister has intention to defect from APC once he has played out the supposed script from Ayade.
Reacting, the minister described the statement as reckless, insisting that he remains the authentic governorship candidate of the party.
Usani said the suggestion that he would dump the APC was figment of the individual(s) imagination.
