The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has re-assured that Nigeria’s official position for a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has not changed.
This is coming after news reports that Nigerian Ambassador to Israel attended the official opening of United States Embassy in Jerusalem on Monday.
The ministry, in a statement by its spokesperson, Tope Elias-Fatile, said contrary to media reports, neither the Ambassador nor any of the mission staff was present at the event.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja has been drawn to some misleading online reports and discussions that Nigeria was represented at the Official Opening of the Embassy of the United States of America in Jerusalem, Israel on Monday 14th May, 2018.
“The Ministry wishes to clarify that neither the Ambassador nor any member of staff of the Mission attended this event.
“Therefore, we would like to re-assure the general public that the official position of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has not changed.”
