Urgent appeal for your support in ensuring price control on medications

Dear Mr. President,

Your Excellency, I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to you as a concerned citizen of Nigeria, deeply troubled by the current state of our nation’s healthcare system. I am inspired by your dedication to the welfare of our people and your unwavering commitment to progress. It is with great humility that I bring to your attention an issue of paramount importance that affects the lives of millions of Nigerians – the escalating cost of medications.

Our nation’s healthcare system, though making strides in recent years, is still grappling with numerous challenges. One of the most pressing concerns is the exorbitant prices of essential medications. The burden of high medication costs is not only affecting individuals’ health but also their financial stability and overall quality of life. Families are forced to make heartbreaking decisions between putting food on the table and purchasing life-saving medicines. This dire situation is a clear violation of the fundamental right to health and well-being that every Nigerian deserves.

SPONSOR AD

Your Excellency, your leadership has always stood as a beacon of hope for our nation. I implore you to use your influence and authority to address this critical issue by implementing stringent measures for price control on medications. Such a step would not only alleviate the suffering of countless individuals but also demonstrate your unwavering commitment to the well-being of our people. By ensuring that essential medications are accessible, affordable and quality control measures are put in place to eliminate fake drugs in circulation.

Your Excellency, the world is heading towards universal health coverage for all, and Nigeria has its own version, the Nigerian Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) that is limiting, which can’t adequately cover the life threatening and chronic diseases such as cancer, kidney disease, and autoimmune diseases among others. Common diseases such as malaria, thyroid, diarrhoea, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections etc are more often not administered by the healthcare providers. You would be taking a giant stride towards achieving equitable healthcare for all Nigerians.

I understand the complexities of balancing economic considerations with the pressing needs of the population. However, I firmly believe that with your visionary leadership and dedication to the betterment of our nation, we can find a solution that strikes the right balance. Collaborative efforts involving government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare experts can pave the way for a sustainable pricing model that ensures fair access to vital medications.

Your Excellency, I stand before you as a voice representing the countless Nigerians who are struggling silently due to the exorbitant costs of medications. I implore you to consider this urgent appeal and take decisive action to alleviate their suffering. Your legacy as a compassionate leader who stands up for the vulnerable will be forever etched in the hearts of the Nigerian people.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and dedication to our beloved nation. May your wisdom guide us towards a healthier, happier, and more prosperous Nigeria.

Sincerely,

Faika M Ahmed
