Hajiya Amina Abubakar, a 77-year-old widow, has appealed to Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State to direct the agents in charge of the ongoing urban renewal project to re-evaluate her house, located at the Unguwan Kanawa area of the state and release at least N5million to her as compensation.
Amina noted that the property, which she inherited from her late husband for the past 16 years, was marked for demolition due to construction of roads and bridges in the area by the state government.

“I am not against development in the area; in fact, I am very pleased with it, but I want to appeal to the governor to instruct his agents to re-evaluate the property, being that it is a legal premise with a certificate of occupancy registered with the government, and pay me a compensation that will be commensurate with the value of the house and the portion that would be affected by the road construction.
The state government had promised to pay me compensation before the demolition after a proper and accurate valuation of the house.
Unfortunately, the valuation the agents in charge did is not commensurate with the value of the house. I was paid N1.6 million.
This amount is grossly inadequate to allow me get another place or fix the remaining part of the house after about 1/3 of it is taken by the demolition.
I want to use this medium to appeal for at least N5 million in order to enable me fix the house that has sheltered me and my children for the past 16 years, after the demolition is concluded,’’ she pleaded.
