UPDATED: Gunmen kill three policemen at checkpoint in Kaduna’s Sanga LG

Three policemen serving at Fadan Karshi Outpost in Sanga local government area of Kaduna state were on Tuesday gunned down by unknown gunmen at a checkpoint between in Aboro village along Fadan Karshi – Nimbia – Sabon Gida.

A witness from the area said the assailants who were in a vehicle shot the policemen as soon as they arrived the checkpoint but the driver of the Police vehicle survived the attack as he ran into the bush.

The incident happened almost at the same hour that Operation Safe Haven was commissioning a newly built Base at Gwantu, the headquarters of the Sanga Local Government to enhance its security operations in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Vice Chairman of Sanga local government, Alhaji Abubakar Abba Umar, said the sad event was reported to him adding that the dead bodies of the affected policemen have since been deposited at the Gwantu General Hospital.

Umar noted that two policemen died on the spot while the third one died on the way to the hospital.

He lamented the increase in crime wave in the area and appealed to relevant security agencies to rise to the responsibility of securing the area.

While confirming the incident, Police spokesman in Kaduna, Suleiman Abubakar, said the unknown gunmen opened fire on the police through a thick bush in opposite direction at Aboro village along Fadan Karshi -Nimbia Forest which led to the killing of Inspector Daniel Dogo, Inspector Bobai Bature and Sgt. Mamman Ahmadu.

In a statement signed by the PPRO, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna Command, Ali Aji Janga, he disclosed that reinforcement has since been deployed to the area for general combing to ensure that the culprits are apprehended and brought to face justice.

The CP, who commiserates with the families of the gallant men who lay down their lives for the common good of the country, also called on the general public to assist the Police with relevant information on the whereabouts of gunmen in order to rid the community of bad elements.

“We assure the public that the culprits will not escape the long arms of the law. The Command is doing everything possible to apprehend those behind this dastardly act,” he added.
