The Osun State Elections Petitions Tribunal in Abuja had dismissed preliminary objection by Governor Gboyega Oyetola, and two others challenging the competence of the petition in the Osun State governorship election.
In ruling read on behalf of a three-member panel of judges by Justice Peter Obi, the tribunal held that the petition was competent and that the tribunal has jurisdiction to hear the petition.
Governor Oyetola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had contended that the petition lacked competence and the jurisdiction to hear the matter.
